"Ispirato da "Memorie di cieco" di Jaques Derrida, questo autoritratto fu il mio tentativo dell'epoca di osservarmi senza l'ausilio di un riflesso, di un meccanismo specchiante condannato a restituire la mia immagine per via indiretta. Per questo Derrida suggerisce che il disegnatore, autoritraendosi, si debba accecare.
L'autoritratto diviene quindi l'occasione per enunciare, od enumerare, colui che è l'altro da me, o in me, in noi. Perchè se è vero che l'occhio non vedrà mai sè stesso, e che il punto cieco della visione è la vista stessa, allora è vero che il "sè" non può essere che un punto vuoto."
Inspired by "Memories of the blind" by Jaques Derrida, this self-portrait is the artist's attempt to observe himself without the aid of a reflection, of a mirroring mechanism condemned to return his image indirectly. This is why Derrida suggests that the designer, by selfwithdrawing, should blind himself.
Thus the self-portrait becomes an opportunity to enunciate, or enumerate, the one who is the other by himself, or in himself, in us. Because if it is true that the eye will never see itself, and that the blind spot of vision is sight itself, then it is true that the "self" can only be an empty spot.
